DENISE PORTER-HOWLAND

Denise Porter-Howland is a New Zealand ceramicist based in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland whose sculptural practice reimagines everyday forms as intimate, reflective objects.

Working intuitively without pre-drawn designs, she handbuilds each piece in mid-fire clay, allowing forms to emerge through process rather than plan. Her works often evoke nostalgia and quiet familiarity, encouraging tactile and playful engagement.

Porter-Howland studied fine art in London and has exhibited widely in solo and group contexts, as well as public projects including SCAPE's Mobi, A Seat at the Table at Tauranga Art Festival and Born Slippy at Artspace Aotearoa.
