EMMA CREASEY

Emma Creasey is a painter based in Narrm/Melbourne whose practice builds visual worlds populated by figures, animals, shifting landscapes and abstract forms. Her work holds states of ambiguity and tension, with tenderness sitting alongside unease and familiarity slipping toward something stranger.

Working through intuitive mark-making and layered compositions, Creasey draws from fragments of literature, film, music, historical material, memory and imagined experience. Images and motifs often repeat across works, with meaning formed gradually over time. Her practice sits somewhere between diary, dream and invention.

Largely self-taught, Creasey has exhibited throughout Australia and undertaken residencies in Tasmania. Alongside her studio practice she has facilitated a public drawing program at the National Gallery of Victoria and completed private and commercial commissions.
