JULI NYESTE

Juli Nyeste is a Hungarian-Australian artist based in Narrm/Melbourne whose practice explores the surreal qualities within the familiarity of everyday life. Through painting, she transforms ordinary moments and kitsch objects, such as antique porcelain sculptures, into subtly uncanny visual encounters.

Nyeste's work considers context, scale and materiality to reframe overlooked domestic objects as central subjects. Moving between humour, delicacy and curiosity, she draws attention to their layered histories, unsettling our perception of their decorative and domestic image.

Nyeste holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from RMIT University and studied at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest. Her work has been exhibited in Australia, Hungary and Japan, including presentations at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum.
