SARAH SMALLTOWN PARKES

Sarah Parkes is an Australian sculptural artist based on Gunai Kurnai Land/Fish Creek whose practice centres on weaving, ropework and material storytelling.

Parkes' works map personal and environmental narratives through intricate knotting and fibre-based structures. Using salvaged and found materials, she creates layered compositions that reflect care, domesticity and belonging, while also engaging with landscape and memory. Her practice emphasises process, repetition and a unique tactile knowledge of material.

Parkes has completed commissions for major institutions including StandardX Hotel, Hilton and Hyatt Regency, and is founder of Smalltown as well as a member of the Hotham Street Ladies collective.
